Virt a Mate (also known as VaM) is a physics-based 3D sandbox with full VR support. You can create and customize characters, build scenes, and explore a massive library of community-made content. The platform uses a real-time rendering engine, so every change you make — from lighting to character expressions — is visible instantly. The community has built thousands of custom assets — from detailed character looks to fully scripted interactive scenes. Virt a Mate runs on desktop and in virtual reality, giving creators full control over their projects.
All content in Virt a Mate is shared as .var files. Each one is named as Creator.Package.Version (e.g. “MacGruber.PostMagic.6”) so you always know who made it and which version you have. To install, drop the .var into your VaM/AddonPackages folder and reload. A single scene can use dozens of .var files from different creators, which is why keeping your packages organized matters.
Many packages in Virt a Mate require other .var packages to work properly. You may often see error logs reporting missing .var packages.
If you see those errors, use the Dependency Finder to search and download the right packages from sources worldwide instantly.
Virt a Mate content is split into categories:
Scenes — ready-made setups you can explore or edit.
Looks — 3D character presets for face and body.
Clothing & Hair — wearable assets you can mix between looks.
Plugins — add new features and animations.
Environments — backgrounds and rooms.
Props — objects you can place freely in any scene.
All categories are organized and searchable in the database above.
